(Visual identity)

"The ABC Center is unlike any other cinema or theater: it’s an intimate space where poetic films, emerging artists, and human connections intersect at the heart of a vibrant, accessible culture."

Bikini test? Ouhhh that’s a funny name ahah, so many culture. Even Giger made us the honor with is custom bar. Damn I have it !  No need to necessarily party at night to have some fun !

BIKINI TEST?

What the f*ck is the Bikini Test, you ask? Well, in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), it’s the must go club. Famous for its graffiti-covered walls and its iconic bar designed by HR Giger, the place sadly burned down during a party, so today, the bar lives only in photos. And the name? That’s a funny story ! Before it became a club, it was actually a nuclear test site with a river going down the site named “la Ronde”.

So for the new visual identity, I wanted to capture its story by reducing its 3 main characteristics (the place = square, the river/nuclear zone = circle and fire = triangle) into simple shapes, each one representing a type of event, the number is for the number of artists. Like this, I was able to create a pattern that could be used to the infinity. And for the colors ? Depends on the season, pink and green for spring, blue for winter ! One of my main inspo was the concert and cinema tickets. The overlapped  texts brings dynamism and a DIY feel, while also recalling the messy look of printed tickets.

LOGO

I created the logo using my custom typography made with my geometric shapes, allowing me to write “BIKINI” and “TEST” with my mono font. From it, I designed a pictogram based on the letter K, echoing both my shapes and the original mirrored logo formed with the K offering a shorter yet still distinctive identity for posters.

PROMO

Even when the sun was showing the tip of his nose we had to promote our new visual identity, so for that, I kept the same playful spirit by proposing giant blank posters across the city, paired with a giant board filled with magnetics based on my geometric shapes. This way, people could create their own Bikini posters !

LOGO

For my logo, I wanted to bring together ABC’s key elements. My first attempt was too rigid: it worked for posters but didn’t reflect the center’s world. I then created a modern, functional, adaptable logo while keeping my initial inspirations: reels, screens, and square tables.  ABC consists of three distinct spaces: the cinema, the restaurant, and the theater. Each of these has a unique shape, which I wanted to reflect in the logo: the A represents the theater, the B the restaurant, and the C the cinema.

SUMMARY

In the end, I created a logo, posters and a promotional campaign to develop a complete and strong visual identity. All that made with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator as well as Bikini test information, Pinterest, books from the CPNE-AA library (about Bauhaus).
